If an automatic purchase-order setting is missing in Square, first confirm the exact feature, country, subscription and account permissions. A low-stock email, a suggested order and an order automatically sent to a supplier are different functions. An old screenshot or community answer does not establish which one your account supports today.
Square's current purchase-order guide documents native PO creation, emailing, edits and full or partial receiving. Its inventory-alert guide separately describes alerts based on a configured stock threshold.
Check the account before changing tools
- Identify the setting. Record the exact label and the documentation or screenshot you followed. Check its date and country.
- Confirm eligibility. Review the current PO guide's subscription and advanced-inventory requirements. Check with the account owner that the appropriate capabilities are enabled.
- Check permissions and interface. Verify inventory permissions and use Square Dashboard to compare with the app view. Device and app support can differ.
- Describe the intended automation. Do you want a stock notification, quantities added to a draft, or a supplier order sent without manual action? Ask Square support about that specific outcome.
A Square community discussion from 2024 discussed an unavailable auto-generated-PO setting. It is historical context, not evidence that the feature is unavailable to every merchant in September 2026.
For a support request, include your country, subscription, device/app, exact menu path and the missing control. Share account-specific identifiers through Square's support channel. This gives support enough context to distinguish permissions, availability and an outdated tutorial.
Use the documented purchasing path
While resolving the setting, review low-stock items and open purchases, create a PO for the appropriate supplier, check quantities and unit costs, and send it. Record the actual delivery using full or partial receiving.
Square supports editing an order. If you change it, explicitly send the revision: saving an edit does not automatically resend the vendor email. See the Square PO tutorial for the complete process.
Keep the buyer's review at the point where money is committed. For example, an alert for 10 remaining bottles does not reveal whether 24 bottles are already on order or whether the supplier sells cases of six. Check those facts before creating another purchase.
Decide whether additional automation is useful
If the native process works once access is corrected, there may be no reason to add software. If your recurring problem is supplier confirmations, changed dates or receiving exceptions getting lost, evaluate that workflow separately from the missing toggle.
LineNow for Square supports a purchasing workflow with reviewable supplier changes and receiving context. Demonstrate the specific recommendation, approval, sending and inventory-update behavior you need before relying on it. Check optional modules and current plan terms as part of the evaluation.
